A Brand New Cover

Here it is, and it's soooo cute! This is the new cover art for the trade paperback/ebook version of A Real Basket Case that Midnight Ink will release this November. I think the artist did a great job with the gift basket theme for the series--gift tag, bow, basket. Plus, the artist tied in the Colorado Springs setting (see the mountains out the window?), and the location where Claire Hanover, my gift basket designer, meets the future victim--a neighborhood gym. And it definitely has a craft cozy mystery subgenre feel to it.

So what do you think of it? Would this cover call out to you if you saw it on a bookstore shelf?

The cover definitely calls out to be picked up and read. Best wishes on the launch of this upcoming book.

Thanks, Mason! It's good to have positive feedback from someone else.

I love this cover. Will it be available on the nook or Kindle?

Beth Groundwater said...

Yes, Dru, for the Kindle, at least. This is the paperback/ebook version of A Real Basket Case (the hardcover came out in 2007) being published by Midnight Ink, and their ebooks are available in multiple formats. There seems to be an issue with pricing on the Nook. Keep your fingers crossed that MI and B&N will negotiate a solution to that.

I like the fonts used on the cover. Kind of quirky with a fun feel.

I really like the cover...in fact I like it a lot better than the original cover!

Thanks, Evelyn, Alan, and Debbie, for your comments.

We never think much about font choices (those of us who don't design covers), but they really do make a difference, don't they?

I would certainly pick it up and read the "blurb" (and then more then likely buy the book!)

I think it's great. I read it when it first came out and it came back to me immediately when I looked at the new cover.

Thanks, Tempewytch and Mare, for your comments!

Mare, I especially appreciate that the cover reminds you of reading the original. That means the artist got enough of the story concept into the artwork that it jogged your memory.

Beth, this cover is far superior to your Five Star cover. Congrats on getting better distribution for your series!

It looks good, Beth

It's a really pretty cover, Beth. I love the colors, too!

Thanks, Lorraine, Patricia, and Jenny!

I liked the hardcover artwork, too, but it was more subdued--designed for the library market. This paperback cover is for the bookstore market, so it has to scream "pick me, pick me, I'm going to be a fun read!" Hopefully it does. :)

Great cover, Beth, but I'm even more delighted that Midnight Ink (one of my favorite publishers) is issuing the paperback!

Love the cover - just the kind I would buy!

A cover like that screams "read me, read me!" I hope it brings you many sales.

Thanks for your comments, Lelia, Loni, and Rox!

I, too, am really glad that Midnight Ink is bringing A Real Basket Case out in paperback, as well as ebook--finally! Readers have been asking me for those formats for a loooong time.

Will To Hell in a Handbasket also get a new cover and be released in paperback and ebook?

Beth Groundwater said...

Yes, Dru! Midnight Ink will bring To Hell in a Handbasket out in the fall of 2012 in paperback and ebook, and a new third book in the series that I've already drafted in the fall of 2013. Both the acquisition editor and I would like to move that schedule up, but it depends on finding a hole in the publication schedule.
