A Great Review for Fatal Descent and Other Links

I'm thrilled with a recent review that compared Fatal Descent, the latest release in my RM Outdoor Adventures series, with mysteries written by Nevada Barr and Dana Stabenow, both authors I greatly admire! As the reviewer said, "Groundwater has written yet another exciting and suspense-filled mystery that speeds along with a swift pace to its extremely compelling conclusion." You can read the full review on the Kings River Life Magazine website. You can also enter a contest there until August 10th to win an autographed copy of the book!

Sisters in Crime is also featuring the cover of the book on their website in the rotation at the bottom of the page. The rotation cycles through four displays of members' recent releases.

I've recently finalized plans to speak in the Local Author Series conducted in the Timberline Campus Library at the Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, Colorado on October 8th. You can read about the event, me and my books at their Local Author Series website.

Finally, the Summer Issue of Books and Banter features Fatal Descent in its mystery section. Just click on the words "Summer Issue" to read the PDF file.

Another Denver Book Signing and Denver and Breckenridge Signing Photos

I have another signing event scheduled this coming weekend for Fatal Descent, the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures series that was released to good reviews on June 8th. If you are in the Denver area, I hope you'll join me at this event. Bonnie Biafore is a hoot and not to be missed. Also, the store owners, Ron and Nina Else, are two of my favorite booksellers, and they're very supportive of Colorado authors. So, I'd like to see Colorado readers come out and support them!

Sunday, July 14, 3:00 – 5:00 PM
Signing with Bonnie Biafore during "Mystery Weekend"
Who Else Books, Broadway Book Mall
200 S. Broadway, Denver, CO 80209

Below are some photos from recent booksigning events. The first one is of Lauri Ver Schure, owner of Murder By the Book, and me (I'm in the shades) at our booth at the South Pearl Street Farmer's Market Sunday, June 30th. It was a beautiful day to be outside and sales were brisk. Lauri has some signed copies of all of my titles still, if any of her customers see this and want to grab one.

The next two photos are from my July 4th signing at The French Kiss, a cute boutique on Main Street in Breckenridge. The signing went very well there, too, and I even had a line at times! Anita, the store owner, also has signed copies of all of my titles, if you missed the event and want to pick one up from her.

I'm continuing to promote Fatal Descent, the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures series that was released to good reviews on June 8th. I've got two more book signings coming up in the next week. If you are in the area, I hope you'll join me at one of these events:

Thursday, July 4, 2013, 11 AM – 1 PM
Signing at The French Kiss after the parade

And here are some photos from my recent signings in the Colorado Springs area last weekend for the book. I was too busy at my Monument, Colorado, signing at Covered Treasures Bookstore during their monthly Art Walk to take any photos. That was a very successful event! The first photo below is from my signing at Black Cat Books during Manitou Springs's Art Walk event. I'm with store owner Natalie Johnson.

The next photo is from my signing at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers store near the Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs. I like how readers Linda and Don Miles happened to wear clothing with colors matching mine--and the book covers for Fatal Descent and Deadly Currents!

A Day in the Life of Mandy Tanner and An Enthusiastic Review and Giveaway

Today, Mandy Tanner, the whitewater river ranger/rafting guide protagonist of my RM Outdoor Adventures series (and recent release book 3 in that series, Fatal Descent), is visiting Dru's Book Musings to talk about a day in the life of a whitewater rafting guide. I hope you'll stop by the blog HERE and ask Mandy (or me) a question. Whitewater rafting guides work VERY hard for very little money, especially on multiday river trips. I hope reading about Mandy's typical day will give you a little more respect for what your whitewater rafting guide does for you. After taking that roller coaster ride through the rapids, be sure to give your guide a big tip!

Also, the book review blog, Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book has given Fatal Descent a very enthusiastic 5-star review HERE. She's also giving away her review copy to one commenter, so leave a comment to enter the contest!

A Booksigning, A Review, and Two Interviews

Today I am at the Socrates' Book Review blog, where Yvonne reviewed my new release, Fatal Descent and interviewed me, posing some interesting questions. I hope you'll stop by there and leave a comment or a question of your own for me!

Also, a feature article/interview with me appears in Scene section of the Summit Daily News today. You can read the article on-line as well as in the print newspaper.

Tomorrow, Saturday, June 8th, I will have my first book signing for Fatal Descent, the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures mystery series starring whitewater river ranger/rafting guide Mandy Tanner. The signing will be from 3 - 5 PM at the Next Page Bookstore, 409 Main Street, #101, Frisco, CO 80443. It will take place during the Ten Mile Creek whitewater races weekend and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to the Gore Range chapter of Trout Unlimited. I hope to see many readers there!

One Month to Launch for FATAL DESCENT!

In one short month, Fatal Descent, the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures series starring whitewater river ranger and rafting guide Mandy Tanner will be released by Midnight Ink. Here's the blurb:

"A fast-paced locked-room mystery in Utah’s awe-inspiring canyon lands

River guide Mandy Tanner and her fiancĂ© Rob Juarez, owners of RM Outdoor Adventures, are leading an off-season rafting and climbing trip on the Colorado River. The unfamiliar topography and a lecherous local climbing guide have Mandy on edge — but that’s nothing compared to the trouble the clients bring. When a young man is found dead, everyone on the trip is a suspect. Since there’s no way out of the Colorado River’s steep canyons, it’s up to Mandy and Rob to solve the mystery before the murderer strikes again."

The book has already received some great reviews (see below), and both Amazon and Barnes and Noble have a special preorder price for the trade paperback of only $8.51 (save 43% off list)!

"The tension runs high in Groundwater’s absorbing third RM Outdoor Adventures mystery … Scenic descriptions and folklore add atmosphere to a suspenseful tale." -- Publishers Weekly (for full review, go HERE)

"Groundwater’s books keep getting better. The mystery is well written, but the scenery takes pride of place in this exciting story." -- Cayocosa72 - Book Reviews (for full review, go HERE)

I'm busy making plans to promote the launch, writing articles for mystery magazines and blogs, setting up signing events, organizing contests, etc. I hope some of my blog readers will be able to join in the fun! Stay tuned here and to my website and sign up for my email newsletter, if you aren't already, to be privvy to the plans!

Cover Art for FATAL DESCENT!

I'm thrilled to present the cover art for Fatal Descent, the third book in my RM Outdoor Adventures series starring whitewater river ranger and guide Mandy Tanner. The book will be released in June, 2013, and features both climbing and whitewater rafting scenes. It takes place on the Colorado River in Utah in the Canyonlands area, with its red sandstone cliffs. I am so happy the Midnight Ink Art Department was able to fit both rapids and a climber on the cover. Please leave a comment here to let me know what you think of it!

Naming Characters After Real People

I'm blogging at Inkspot, the blog for Midnight Ink authors, today about the only times I name characters after real people. It's when they make the winning bid on a character name in an upcoming novel of mine in a silent or live auction for a literacy-related charity that most mystery fan conferences conduct.

Please read my post to learn about the fun I had with the latest two character names. Also, if you've ever had a character named after you in a mystery novel, please tell all! What did you think of the experience?
